How Echory collects, uses, and protects information when you use the service.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Echory ("Echory", "we", "us") collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Echory website, applications, and services (the "Service").
Echory turns books you upload into spoken audio. We designed the Service to collect only what we need to do that, keep your account secure, and improve the product.
Account information: your email address and authentication data used to create and secure your account.
Your Content: the books and documents (e.g. EPUB, PDF) you upload, along with the extracted text, chapters, metadata, and the generated audio, so we can build and stream your library.
Usage and device information: listening progress, library activity, app/session and device data, IP address, and service logs used to operate, secure, and improve the product.
Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor — Stripe, Inc. — collects and processes your billing details directly. Card details are entered into Stripe’s secure fields and are never sent to or stored on Echory’s servers. We receive only limited information such as subscription status, billing period, and the brand and last four digits of your card. Stripe processes this data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy).
Communications: support messages, feedback, and emails you send to us.
To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
To ingest uploaded content, extract and clean text, detect chapters, generate audio narration, and provide playback and library features.
To process payments, manage subscriptions, and prevent fraudulent or abusive billing.
To send transactional emails such as signup confirmations, password resets, book-ready notifications, and security alerts.
To monitor reliability, debug issues, prevent abuse, enforce our Terms, and improve product performance and quality.
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), based on your consent (e.g. optional analytics), to comply with legal obligations, and for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving Echory in a way that does not override your rights.
We rely on trusted providers that process data on our behalf, under contract and only to deliver the Service:
Hosting and delivery (application hosting and CDN); database, authentication, and file storage (our backend platform); AI text-to-speech and text processing to generate your audio; Stripe, Inc. as our payment processor for subscriptions and billing; an email provider for transactional email; and a bot-protection provider to secure sign-up and login.
We may also use privacy-conscious analytics to understand aggregate product usage. We share only what each provider needs, and we do not permit them to use your data for their own purposes.
You retain ownership of the content you upload. You grant Echory permission to host, process, transform, and transmit that content only as needed to operate the Service for you.
We do not sell Your Content and do not use it to train third-party foundation models except as necessary to generate your audio. If you delete content or close your account, we stop using it for product operations, subject to limited backup, logging, and legal-retention needs.
We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Server logs and security records are kept for a limited period.
When you delete content or your account, we remove or de-identify the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level data isolation — to protect account and service data.
No system is perfectly secure. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential; contact us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict processing of your personal information, and to object to certain processing or withdraw consent.
You can update your email, reset your password, delete uploaded books, and delete your entire account from within the product. To exercise any other right, contact us at privacy@echory.app; we will respond as required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
We and our providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than yours. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
Echory is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 (or the age of digital consent in your country, if higher) to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age; if you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the updated version here, revise the "Last updated" date above, and provide additional notice where appropriate.
